How to Volunteer
There are several ways to volunteer. You can come to a workday. New people are always welcome. You can get school extra credit if your teacher allows it. You can do a boyscout or girlscout service project. You can volunteer as a group. You can also donate money to support our restoration work. For more information on any of these options, contact Friends of the Bluff Spring Fen at bluffspringfen@gmail.com or 847-464-4426.
- Workdays: Many people from all walks of life volunteer by coming to one of our workdays held on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month. New people are always welcome, and no experience is needed. Click here to learn more.
- Volunteering for School Credit: Several local high school teachers now offer extra credit for their students. Talk to your teacher to see if he or she offers this. If you need proof of attendance to one of our workdays, bring the form or letter for us to sign. At the end of the workday, one of our co-stewards will be happy to sign it for you.
- Volunteering as a Group: We can easily handle groups of 20 people or less. If you contact us ahead of time, you are welcome to join one of our scheduled workdays. We can also set up a special day for just your group. We will provide all the tools and know-how. You supply the willing hands!
- Boyscout/Girlscout Projects: Several Eagle Scouts and boyscout and girlscout troops have done service projects at the Fen. The troops are welcome to come to a workday or set up one themselves. (See Volunteering as a Group above.) Any scout member is welcome to coordinate with us for a special service project to earn badges or as an Eagle Scout project.
- Donations: If you are unable to come to workdays, please consider donating money. We need financial support just as much as we need physical support. Your funds will enable us to buy supplies for workdays, publicize the Fen and our work, and hire contractors for invasive species control. Click here to learn more.
